about
Desperate Phonecall is the new single from Naarm-based songwriter/producer/engineer, Fairie (Lucy Li) and the second cut from her upcoming full-length album, Nastic Appeal.
Sonically the track is arose from a period of Kate Bush appreciation during the early days of the pandemic. Lucy says: “I was leaning hard into musical escapism to deal with all the horrible stuff that was happening globally and the deterioration of my mental health- and found myself in an ethereal watercolored world.”
Desperate Phonecall tracks the emotional contour of a late night when it seems like there’s nothing good left in the world, the despair over this idea. It’s about throwing in the towel for the day and vowing to try again tomorrow.
